Ronnie James, known off the air as Ron Lawson, brings a lifelong passion for broadcasting and community connection to WRBN Radio. His journey in media began in the 1960s in northwest Oklahoma, where he worked as a part-time DJ at KALV AM in Alva. That early experience behind the microphone sparked a love for radio that would remain with him throughout his career.

While attending Oklahoma State University, Ron continued honing his skills as a DJ at KVRO FM, the campus Top 40 station in Stillwater. After earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism and Broadcasting, he transitioned into television, beginning at KAUZ-TV in Wichita Falls, Texas. His career soon brought him back to Oklahoma State, where he produced educational television programs for the university’s Educational Television Services and taught courses in production and directing. His work reached a national audience through PBS, showcasing his talent for storytelling and communication.

Ron later attended seminary in Kansas City, Missouri, which led to a meaningful chapter working with Southern Baptist mission organizations in the Atlanta area. He served in leadership roles directing television production and shaping media strategy for both the North American Mission Board and the Georgia Baptist Mission Board.

In 2017, Ron and his wife retired and made their home full-time in the scenic Wolffork Valley of Rabun Gap, though they have owned property in Rabun County since 2001. Retirement opened the door for Ron to reconnect with his radio roots, leading him to WRBN, where his enthusiasm for local broadcasting shines through every show.

In addition to his on-air work, Ron enjoys playing and listening to oldies music. He is also a guitarist and vocalist in a local band, “Just in Time,” sharing his love of classic hits with the community. At WRBN, Ronnie James combines experience, energy, and heart, celebrating the spirit of local radio.
